Short answer: one, and absolutely. For many Marvel fans, post-credits scenes are the highlight of a new movie in the MCU. We assume the Captain Marvel scene is actually from Endgame because it has all of the Avengers in it. Marvel has done this before when the end credit scene for Ant-Man was actually footage from the next movie, Captain America: Civil War.

Back in 2008, when Nick Fury arrived at Tony Stark's house to invite him to join the Avengers Initiative after the credits rolled, the sequence felt like most post-credit scenes did back then — a little in-joke for dedicated viewers who cared enough to sit all the way through the credits, instead of bolting for the doors the moment the action stopped.

After few seconds of heaving, he coughs up the Tesseract onto Fury's desk. The last time we saw it, the Infinity Stone had been swallowed by Goose - an alien flerken with the Tardis like ability to contain more than should be possible considering its appearance as an average-sized ginger house cat.

We'll know the next stage in the Space Stone's life cycle when Marvel finally reveals what's behind the Avengers: Endgame curtain. Thanos eventually obtained it from Loki in Infinity War. We probably could have assumed that this was how Nick Fury got the Tesseract back for S.H.I.E.L.D., but it's much better that we actually got to see it happen.

You see, back in 2008, Marvel kicked off and set up the trend of post-credit scenes with a Sam Jackson Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. character reveal that had fans' heads exploding with excitement. Turns out, Fury managed to contact someone after all; on the small screen, the colors and insignia of Captain Marvel appear.

Forshadowing Avengers: Infinity War , Shuri visits a convalescing Bucky Barnes , who has awoken from cryostasis, and tells him he has much to learn. Warning: This post contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Captain Marvel and its end credits scene. No sooner does Widow say she wants to meet DCU whoever is on the other end of that transmission than she turns to find Captain Marvel behind the Avengers.

The Tesseract - aka the Space Stone - makes a surprise appearance in Captain Marvel, ahead of its starring role in Avengers. At the end of Infinity War, Nick Fury tries to reach Captain Marvel before disintegrating. Captain Marvel's final fight scene isn't much of a battle.
